- Greyfriars Bridge. And Friary (a small monastery to house the Frairs who, in their grey robes helped the poor and sick of the town.
- Kingsland Bridge was built as a very great convenience to the people who had built large houses in the prosperous suburb of Kingsland.
- Before the time of vast brewing companies, much beer was brewed locally. Micro breweries are now coming back into fashion, but the old brewery you see here went out of business and was converted into luxury flats.
- The boat Houses here are owned by the Pengwern Boat Club of amateur rowers and Shrewsbury School (students are taught to row and later on, might row in a famous Boat Race).
- The red brick building on the brow of the hill is now one of the main buildings of Shrewsbury Public School, but was previously a 'House of Industry' for people without work.
- The Telephone Exchange occupies this very large building, but with modern emphasis on rationalization and cost-cutting it may be now too big.
- The beautiful water meadows were once outside the town walls, but have now been developed as tennis courts and gardens. During the summer they are used as a showground for the Shrewsbury Flower Show. A small stone quarry with a pond has been converted into a charming park (The Quarry Park).
- In the Park, at one end of the ornamental lake, is a statue of 'Sabrina', the goddess of the River Severn, who is seen as a beautiful girl with waterweed in her long hair. She figures in the Masque 'Comus' by John Milton. Near the River is a copy in lead of the Farnese Hercules.
- In one corner of this lovely open area is a rose garden dedicated to the memory of the Queen Mother, and the Municipal Swimming Pool.
- Here we pass under the Porthill Bridge and beside it is the Boathouse Inn.
- At the English Bridge - an ancient bridge now mostly rebuilt, which was once the main route from London into Shrewsbury. Near it is the thousand year old Shrewsbury Abbey founded by a brother of William the Conqueror. It was the site of one of Britain's earliest parliaments.
